: She has had off and on diarrhea now for 4 weeks. Herbal, homeopathic and standard medicines have had virtually no effect. Lab tests show no problems.
: Currently she is doing a day of liquids only, after which we'll add low-fiber stuff slowly (her MDs suggestion - I was trying to do the opposite, adding more bulk/fiber).
: Any other suggestions? Similar problems?

Put her on warm foods ONLY. You are weakening her digestion with these regimes.

: Paul are you talking about "warm" as in the energetic of the food to restore digestive fire? Jack might think you meant "warm the food first."

These are equivalent.

: No, there is a big difference between foods that are warming and warm foods. I thought you might be referring to herbs that promote warmth and digestion. That is what I meant by the energetic of the food.

I repeat: these are equivalent. Yes, the energetically Warm foods are what I meant. I also meant the warmth of cooked food. Both of these factors are adequate interpretations of the advice.

I hope that Watermelon Compote is not what immediately springs to mind when Warm food is suggested.

: Why? are warm foods more constipating? Does it have to do with enzymes or bringing circulation to the digestive system? Dan Wong

Warm foods support the Digestive Fire. It is a simple and obvious effect. It has nothing to do with the foolishness being promoted by many of 'enzymes.'

: Hi, there are remedies that work much more naturlly. Such as yogurt, the (i.e., not any of that fake stuff, with pectin, starch, gelatin, so on, and so on.) but only that made with real milk and has live culture. the good old banana, a teaspoon of cinnamon in a glass of warm water, a half of heaping tablespoon of white flour to a half of glass of water, mash potatoes (plain) or potatoe water (new potatoes tend to taste the best this way).

Bananas are SPECIFICALLY contraindicated. This is a Cold fruit with a downward action. A good remedy for constipation due to Heat, but a lousy recommendation for diarrhea due to chronic illness.
