Pulvis Hydrastis Compositus.—Compound Powder of Golden Seal.

Preparation.—Take of golden seal, blue cohosh, and helonias, each, in powder, ½ ounce. Mix together.

Action, Medical Uses, and Dosage.—This powder is tonic and antispasmodic. It is very efficient in dyspepsia, chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach, and will afford much relief in cases of distress of the stomach after eating, and in aphthous inflammations of the mouth. It may also be administered, to prevent a relapse, in bilious colic. The dose is from ½ to 1 drachm, 3 or 4 times a day, in water, tea, or wine, as the case may require (J. King).
