Here in the Southwest desert it is a native plant so it grows well in my front yard. It is my first aid for cuts, burns, insect bites, and tummy aches. I just peel off the outer skin and apply or eat the slimy goo. It's pure magic.
I think it has antibiotic properties in addition to healing ones.
