Quinine acetyl-salicylate, C20H24N2O2.C6H4.COOH.OCOCH3, may be prepared by mixing alcoholic solutions of quinine and acetylsalicylic acid. It occurs as a white, crystalline powder, containing 64 per cent. of quinine. Melting-point, 1.570. It is also known under the trade-name Xaxaquin.
Soluble in water (1 in 350), alcohol (1 in 50), chloroform (1 in 7) insoluble in ether.
Action and Uses.—The action of quinine acetyl-salicylate resembles that of quinine salicylate.
Dose.—½ to 3 decigrams (1 to 5 grains).
