According to the census of 1905, the duration of life in Iceland is 61.8 years. This is nearly double the mean duration of life as generally computed in civilized countries. In Sweden and Norway, which are the next highest, it equals about fifty years.

There may be some valuable lessons to be learned in the determining of the reasons for the superior health of people living in cold climates. It is certain that the real reason is not generally known.
