In reading your September THERAPEUTIST I noticed a list of remedies on which you ask for observations from other doctors. In reply I will say that I have used aesculus glabra in hemorrhoids with excellent results, also collinsonia and hamamelis. Aesculus is indicated by pain or a sense of constriction in the rectum, whether there is hemorrhoids or not. Collinsonia, by heat or burning pain, and hamamelis is given to improve the circulation of hemorrhoidal veins. Collinsonia, when given in this trouble, should be given in small doses. My prescription is usually as follows:
Aesculus | dr. 1 |
Collinsonia | drs. ½ |
Hamamelis | oz. 1 |
Aqua, q. s. | ozs. 4 |
M. Sig. Teaspoonful four times a day. Your THERAPEUTIST is one of the best journals I take; I wish that all journals were edited in the same way, precise, practical and to the point.
Fraternally yours,. A. HELBING, M. D.
COMMENT:—The above comparison of these three remedies, in the treatment of hemorrhoids, or of their influence upon the lower bowel, is a very important one. I want further reports, confirmatory or otherwise of the doctor's statements, from any physician who has used these three remedies separately, and who is able to make a clear report of the specific indications for each.
