Unguentum Terebinthinae.—Ointment of Turpentine.
Botanical name:
Oleum Terebinthinae (U. S. P.)—Oil of Turpentine
Preparation.—"Take of oil of turpentine, 1 fluid ounce; resin, in coarse powder, 54 grains; yellow wax, ½ ounce (av.); prepared lard, 1 ounce (av.). Melt the ingredients together by the heat of a steam or water-bath. Remove the vessel, and stir the mixture constantly while it cools"—(Br. Pharm., 1885).
Action and Medical Uses.—This ointment forms a good application to recent inflammations of the surface, and in erythema, erysipelas, and burns.
