Canary Seed

Canary Seed. Fructus (Semen) Canariense, Semence de Canarie, Fr. Kamariensamen, G.—The seeds of Phalaris canariensis L., an annual grass originally from the Canary Islands, but now growing wild in Europe and the United States. The seeds are ovate, somewhat compressed, about 5 mm. long, shining and of a light yellowish-gray color externally, and light within. Their chief constituent is starch, and they are used chiefly as bird seed.
