Sphaeranthus. Sphaeranthus indicus L. (Fam. Compositae.)—An herbaceous plant having winged stems and widely distributed in Africa, Asia and Australia. It is used as a general tonic, deobstruent, alterative, and aphrodisiac, under the names of Mundi Gorakhmundi, Murmuria, and Kottakkarandai. Dymock has found it in a deep cherry-colored essential oil.
