Epilobium root and dogwood.
Use Epilobium root like dogwood?
Fascinating. I'm adding more classic text URLs to the database, and ran across this tidbit:
Cook says to use the root of Epilobium angustifolium (fireweed, great willow-herb) like Cornus florida.
Now go have a look at the uses of Cornus florida: most Eclectics used it for malaria and other periodic fevers, either instead of cinchona, or where cinchona is not tolerated. Another cheap antimalarial, to rival Artemisia annua? Hmmm.
Thing is, of course, that I haven't seen the cornus over here, and we have simply loads of the fireweed. The leaves of which I use for pretty much any gut upset that comes my way, in teas, in quantity.
